We’ve teamed up with the Click for Babies campaign and the Oklahoma State Department of Health to help prevent infant abuse.
Knit or crochet a newborn baby hat using any shade of soft, baby-friendly purple yarn and drop it off at SWAK when you’re finished. We’ll deliver them with care to our local health department.
These hats will be given to newborn babies in November and December to help educate parents about the Period of Purple Crying, a normal but frustrating period of increased crying all infants experience in the first few weeks and months after birth.
Free baby hat patterns to knit and crochet are available on their Stitchers Club website. They have many new patterns listed, or feel free to use one of your favorites. They do ask you to refrain from using any potential choking and strangling hazards to babies such as pom-poms, tassels, straps, bows, ribbons, or buttons. You can see all of the guidelines on their website.
Many stitchers have come in and told us they have had difficulty finding purple yarn. SWAK has many purple baby-friendly yarns in stock so come see us!
Our deadline for drop off is Saturday, September 30th so you have plenty of time.
