Tiny Toppers 2019

tinytopper

We’re kicking off the start of our 2019 Tiny Toppers program with a bang!

Last year we partnered with Brandy Parks of Sooner Success, a non-profit organization that coordinates a broad range of assistance to families with children who have special needs. Our goal was to get the word out about this fabulous program that greatly improves the lives of parents and children in Logan County.

During downtown Guthrie’s annual Trick-or-Treat we handed out over 700 handmade hats to children, and attached information on the Sooner Success program for the parents. As a result, Brandy has seen an increase in referrals allowing her to touch the lives of more families in our community and maintain funding for this program.

We were very touched by the reactions of the children and parents when we handed out the hats during trick-or-treat. They were truly appreciative that someone took the time to make them a hat. For some children this would be the only hat they had to keep warm over the winter.

The members of First United Methodist Churches of Crescent and Guthrie were instrumental in providing many of the hats we received last year.  This year we are hoping to double the number of hats we are able to provide, allowing us to reach even more children.

This morning we dropped off two carloads of packages, issuing a challenge to area churches. We will keep a tally of how many hats are donated by each church. The group who donates the most hats will be treated to a special tea party for those who contributed.

If your church would like to be included in the challenge, please drop us a line. We would love to send a challenge package to your church, if we haven’t already!

Individuals and other organizations are encouraged to bring hats to us as well. It truly takes a village to meet our goals.

  1. Looking forward to participating again this year, Keely! And you have good taste — I’ll be making the envelope hat soon, for a baby shower April 14. 🙂

  2. I’m so happy to see this! I began knitting baby hats recently for an organization I read about in another state, but have felt a strong pull to make them for the babies and children right here in our area instead. This is perfect.
