Our completely revamped website is now live, and we think you are going to love it!
Every aspect of our site has been rebuilt from scratch. It has been a monumental task.
Planning phasespring 2019
After spending the past few years physically remodeling every inch of our store, I really wasn’t looking to tackle another huge project.
Dave, the account manager at our web hosting company, called me at the beginning of the year. When he pointed out that our website was technologically dated…well that was all he needed to say. I refuse to be a dinosaur!
It was early spring before I could mentally begin the process. June was filled with road trips, school trips, and swim meets. I spent many hours working from hotel rooms, huddled over my computer feverishly researching and making notes.
I quickly realized that before I dove into to web redesign, I had to take several steps back. There was much more that needed done. The work ahead would be daunting.
Back to Square Onesummer 2019
Once the big Rowan launch was behind us, it was time to dive in. The first step was to install a completely new Point of Sale software system. This too had to be built from scratch, in that I didn’t want 20+ years of old data carrying over to a brand new system.
This led to a new Loyalty Program, followed by a new class registration site. I even kicked my accounting software to the curb that I’ve been using since 1993! It wasn’t that my existing systems were necessarily outdated, they just weren’t at a place to interconnect and take us to where we wanted to be in the future.
Finally, the Websitefall 2019
After getting all of our other ducks in a row, the building of our website began. We have never settled for a simple, out of the box site. Creating a site that met our standards was no easy task.
My head has been buried in a computer for many, many weeks working from anywhere I could get a WIFI or hotspot connection. Fueled by hot chocolate and junk food (anything I could easily poke in my mouth to keep moving), and working around the clock, it is such a relief to finally have it finished.
All of the “front end” part of the site that you see I built myself – the design, graphics, hundreds of pages, thousands upon thousands of images and products. While I can upon occasion tinker with the “back end”, it has been the work of many players from my web host to the multiple companies providing the necessary integrations. Let’s just say I have enlisted enough new techie friends from around the globe to form an international sports team.
We really think you’ll like the end result. Not only will this vastly improve efficiency on our end, it will also enhance your experience both online and in person.
We are now able to offer free shipping on orders of $75 or more, and a low flat shipping rate for smaller orders.
In addition, Sealed with a Kiss patterns are available directly from our website as immediate downloads. We have temporarily retired several of our older patterns. Our next big project is to give these a fresh makeover.
There are still several loose ends to be completed, such as adding our inventory of buttons, beads, and shawl pins to the site. We hope to get that completed by the year’s end.
And as with any technology, there are a few limits as to what we can and can not do. You can purchase gift cards and earn loyalty rewards online, however both can only be redeemed in-store or by phone. These abilities are currently out of our reach, but we are now better positioned to add these capabilities as they become available to us in the future.
Thank you for your patience during this huge transition. Many of you have checked on us during the process, noting how quiet we have been on social media as of late and worrying that I had fallen in a hole and disappeared.
I am happy to report that I have crawled out of this virtual hole. The annual 24 Days of SWAK is just around the corner, and I have so much to share with you. Stay tuned!
