December 1: Let the Festivities Begin!

mason copyThe 24 Days of Christmas officially starts today. This is our fifth year of this annual tradition, and we look forward to it as much as all of you.
If you’re new to this tradition and wonder what in the heck this is all about, check out some of the previous years’ fun!

We’ll blog daily through Christmas Eve with holiday cheer, giveaways, free patterns, delicious recipes, holiday tips and much more.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a bit of the bah humbugs. It could have something to do with my neighbors putting out their Christmas lights and decorations BEFORE Halloween. By mid-November there were at least 6 houses on my block fully decked out for Christmas.

So when I saw Mr. Senior’s report on this very topic on SNL a few weeks ago, all I could say was “AMEN!” Now if I only had a megaphone…

So my question to you today is when do YOU put out your decorations. Don’t worry, if you’re one of those who put them up before Halloween I promise not to come over to your house with my megaphone next year.

We’ll be giving away $20 gift cards today. For every 10 responses, we’ll randomly select one winner. The more who response, the more cards we’ll give away!

Due to technical difficulties, we have extended the time to comment and get your name in the hat for the gift card drawing until midnight on Monday, December 2.

If you’re rusty and can’t remember your username/password send me an email (swak @ swakknit . com) and I’ll hook you up!

24 days of SWAK. One of my favorite times of the year!
Decorating for Christmas depends on my mood. Usually not until after Thanksgiving, but if we had gotten a snowstorm early this year, I probably would have used the snow day to decorate.

I end up decorating the week of Thanksgiving. I really don’t have that much to decorate with, but I enjoy it as I finish wrapping gifts for the holidays. Plus, it gives me a good reason to bust out my holiday music (especially Peanuts themed music).

We don’t always decorate every year, but this year, it was today! Often, it is Thanksgiving weekend or the first week of Advent.

    Never before Thanksgiving.
The tree goes up the first week of December most years. Exterior lights are spotty – but also, never before December 1.
My real problem is that I like to keep them up all the way through 12th Night. Anyone else do that?
If we are telling the truth, though, even if I say that the decorations shouldn’t go up too soon, I still look. I do love me some Christmas.

Decorate??? I’d rather not! I love the decorations but rather than just enjoy them I think about all the work involved with packing everything away … after January 6 (12 days of Christmas /Epiphany thing). This year I bought a 5’collapsible tree…no worries about putting that one away! 😀

Our Christmas tree doesn’t go up until after December 15th, which is my older son’s birthday. We wanted him to have “his” day first, then the house could be transformed.
Even with him grown & out of state, I don’t give myself a deadline to begin until the granddaughters are released from school for the holiday break. They all love to help transform Oma’s house together.

I normally don’t even think about Christmas stuff until after Thanksgiving. Usually, we do any decorating the first weekend of December, but this year that will be next weekend. lol Too close to Thanksgiving to decorate this weekend! : )

My husband and children thought it would be a good idea to get the tree out before Thanksgiving. I wouldn’t start until around the second week of December if it were up to me.

Never before Thanksgiving, and usually about 10 days before Christmas. Everything comes down after January 6th. I must confess that I love living in a place where they put lights on the trees and leave them up all winter! Cheers the place up after all the Christmas lights come down.

I don’t decorate until after December 11th, because we always waited until my dad’s birthday was done to put up our tree. My mom insisted that his birthday was NOT Christmas.

I like put up my decorations up as close to the beginning of Advent as possible, which usually falls the first Sunday following Thanksgiving. Because, Advent is, after all, the beginning of the Christmas season.

We didn’t at ALL last year! I was pregnant, and husband and I really didn’t care. To make up for the lack of anything last year, we made sure to start beginning of November but we only got the tree decorated three days ago!

We decorate on Christmas Eve (or maybe the 23rd). In theory the tree stays up only until Epiphany, but last year it was there for most of January.

We start putting the decorations up the first or second weekend in December, whichever is least hectic. They stay up through Epiphany and then it’s lights out!
