December 14: Did you Know…

•Cool Digs

building

We are located in one of the hippest communities around! One of the most notable small town historic districts in the United States, downtown Guthrie is filled with Victorian architecture, quirky wild west history, neat shops, and so much more.

When I set out to open my shop forever ago, I refused to use the traditional “bins” to display yarn, and the thought of being in a strip mall made me cringe. Yarn is organic, natural, beautiful, tactile, colorful, textural and needs to be experienced in all its glory. To poke it into plastic and metal boxes in a generic commercial setting would make me rather sad.

sidewalk

Unique people require unique surroundings. I’m much happier when surrounded by amazing architecture, remarkable antiques, ghostly legends, brick sidewalks, and interesting characters. There’s always a good story to tell!

•Good Times

trip6

We know how to have a good time here at SWAK. Throughout the year we have lots of parties, yarn tastings, and other fun events. We even went on a grand cruise to Nova Scotia a few summers ago. Good company, tasty food, fun times.

•We’re Here to Help

Our technical proficiency in all things knit and crochet is inimitable, and we love to share what we know. Buy your yarn from us, and we’re here to help. No fuss, no charge, no hassle. All we ask is that if it involves more than a simple dropped stitch and such, just to give us a heads up so we can make sure we have the needed staff on hand to help you out.

class320-flash

Want to learn a cool new technique? Watch for our Flash Classes returning in the new year. All classes are free, you just have to buy the materials from us. There is a small $2.50 fee for each instructional card used in our Flash Classes.

•Swatches

We have knitted swatches of the yarns in our shop. Feel free to flip through them anytime. We keep them organized by gauge, and all are knit to the gauge recommended on the ball band. I personally knit these myself.

Yarn Swatches
•Samples
We knit lots of samples! All of our samples are from current patterns and yarns stocked in our store. When the samples are no longer current, we mark them for sale at a bargain price.
In addition to the samples we knit and crochet, we frequently feature trunk shows filled with samples from current pattern booklets.

•We’ll Wind Your Yarn
Purchasing yarn in a hank? We’ll be glad to wind it into a center pull ball for you. If we forget to offer to wind it for you, don’t be shy – just ask! If we’re super busy, like on a sale day or during a big event, you may need to leave it or bring it back another day. Otherwise most of the time we can do it while you wait.

•Best Customers in the World
Guthrie Getawaycustomer
Hands down, we have the best customers a gal could hope for. You all keep us smiling and happy to be here every day.
•We Love to Give Stuff Away
gift
I have a couple of $20 gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. We’ve shared some of the things that we think make our shop truly special. Now it’s your turn. What do you love about SWAK?
I’ll randomly pick two winners on Monday.

    Wow where do I begin…
I guess first would be your desire to encourage people to knit (free classes, unlimited help, etc)
The choice of yarn and the knowledge you bring with it. I have asked about other yarns and you can tell me what would be a better choice and why.
Tuesday knit-ins. If I miss one it is bc I don’t have a choice. I look forward to those so much. I learn from everyone else (especially SWAK staff).
Being new to the area I didn’t know anyone and your shop is where I first felt like I had some friends.
Your cooking ability and willingness to share your recipes but also your techniques. The tomato soup you posted earlier was amazing.
Your staff. Everyone That works at SWAK has been welcoming and helpful. I have NEVER experienced that before at any other knit shop and for the record I have been to so many knit shops all over the country and frankly the world. I never feel as though I am bothering anyone when I ask for help.
When someone asks me if I like Oklahoma, SWAK is one of the reasons I answer yes!

I love the atmosphere of SWAK. The shop is very current and the yarns and samples really add to the “coolness” of the shop. I love that the owners will actually help you with projects. I have taken a few classes here and I have even knitted with the girls on Tuesday mornings. I am a quiet person but the staff and owners made me feel accepted and just “one of the girls!” I also love being able to talk to and learn from the best knitters in the country.

I love SWAK because it feels like home.
When I walk in, I am enthusiastically greeted by name and feel like you are truly glad to see me. I also like that if I miss a couple of Tuesday’s, people wonder where I am.
I also absolutely love the help and encouragement I receive.

I love SWAK! Keely is the best and all of the workers are always so helpful! I love being able to see samples of what the yarns look like knitted up! SWAK and Keely have such a giving spirit always ready and willing to help share their love of knitting etc. All of the help you gave to my students over the years has created lasting memories and hobbies for them!!

I was limited to knitting scarves when I first walked into SWAK many years ago. I remember telling Sherry that I would love to knit a sweater, but I couldn’t because I wasn’t a good enough knitter. She told me, “Of course you can knit a sweater!” and proceeded to teach me how. I knit that first sweater and I knew if Sherry thought I could knit something, by golly I knew I could knit it too! Over the years I have taken countless lessons, knit many sweaters, and made some great friends at SWAK. Keely, you and your staff are so willing to help me. I always tell people that as far as I am concerned, there is only one yarn shop in Oklahoma and it is called Sealed with a Kiss in Guthrie.

#1 – I love that it’s in Guthrie. When I make the short drive from Edmond, I feel like I’ve driven out of town for the day. And I love the historic atmosphere of downtown Guthrie. I purposefully go in the front door (park in the east parking lot) just to get the feel of the street and sidewalks.
#2 – I do love the shop and the way you display the yarn! It’s a pleasure to peruse the yarn. Some how it feels more special to touch it when it’s housed in an antique.
#3 I am and will always be thankful for your attitude toward teaching. SWAK is my home yarn shop no matter where I travel or move in the future! Those first couple of years of coming to knit group almost every Tuesday were so special. And though I can’t come very often now, it’s still home to me!
#4 Sweet Anna was my teacher on that first Saturday for my learn-to-knit class and she taught me to tat this past summer. The wealth of knowledge gained from weeks sitting in knit group with Sherry is invaluable…she can fix anything! And Keely, you are a practical, down-to-earth, professional knitter and designer that is always there to help. Thank you!
#5 I have to mention the food at special events…Kelly, you are amazing!
Love my SWAK! And talk about you wherever I go…

I love how close you are to me, just 18 miles from home, 1 mile from work.
Free classes…I know how to knit now, and no one freaked out when I chose the harder lace washcloth to make in my second class.
    Wonderful food and parties!
That you keep an eye out for interesting crochet patterns.
    and
    Yarn!

I have only experienced your store virtually. However, I love your blog and the information on your website. Someday I hope to make it to Guthrie to visit in person!

I have taken on some projects that sometimes needed serious help at certain points and Keely or Sherry were able to get me through it and help me come up with a nicely knit garment! For that I am very thankful.
Having grown up in a smaller town, I like the atmosphere of Guthrie and I don’t have to fight crazy city traffic to get there!

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
On a more serious note, I love the conversations I’ve had at SWAK, With Keely, talking about our plans to save the world, with Ann, Anna, and Mary, planning general shenanigans, or with everyone at Yarn Tastings (which I miss, for sure). I’ve made lasting friendships at SWAK, in addition to learning tons.

There are so many things I enjoy about SWAK. I love the yarn variety, and the helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. I wish I lived closer because I would be in there all the time; knitting, visiting, shopping for my next project. The blog and website in general are a good substitute!

I love the encouragement & creativity. The hang out & knit, chat, problem-solve, pat some new yarn vibe that is always in the air.
