Last week I told you about how Guthrie is a Fiber & NeedleArts District, which is quite a remarkable happening. Today I want to fill you in on some other hot spots that make this town like no other!
One of my family’s favorite spots! They have a very broad menu, with something for everyone and offer a great buffet on the weekends. Debbie and Marc have been in business going on 28 years, which is quite an accomplishment. They are truly good people who go out of their way to take care of their staff and others.
Not too long ago they expanded, adding The Tap Room 223 which offers top-notch craft beers and wine. It is an especially nice place for one to enjoy an adult beverage without encountering a smoky bar scene.
Along with the great food and service, looking around the restaurant at all of Debbie and Marc’s collection of antique signs and such is quite a treat. I’ve been eating there for at least 25 years, and see new and interesting things every time. They were recently listed as one of the most amazing small town restaurants in our state, and it’s easy to see why! Open 7 days a week.
- Roma’s Italian Restaurant, 1202 S Divison
Truly authentic Italian food! Brothers Nick & Evan are from Milan so it doesn’t get more authentic than that. All entrees are served with these awesome little rolls – ask for a side of their olive oil/garlic/basil sauce. That’s Keith’s favorite! Folks also rave about their alla Panna sauce, which is their own blend of a marinara and alfredo sauce. Casual, affordable and delicious! Open every day but Monday.
It is worth the drive just to eat one of their amazing donuts. All other donuts pale in comparison! Also a great spot for lunch, with sandwiches served on their homemade breads and yummy soups. Mickael (aka Missy) and crew are some of the nicest folks you’ll ever meet!
They now have 2 locations – the original at 1112 N. Wentz and their new drive thru located just south of the Sonic on Divison. The original is open Monday-Friday until 2 and Saturdays until 1, and the drive thru is open Monday-Friday until 7pm. They both open before I get out of bed, so if you get up with the roosters you’re on your own as far as that goes.
- Rick’s Fine Chocolates & Coffees, 109 W Oklahoma
I’m not a coffee drinker, but we see more cups from Rick’s in our shop than any other. Plus they make CHOCOLATE – nuff said?
If you’re still looking for that special gift, skip the mall and mega stores and come to Guthrie!
- Boutique 206, 206 E Oklahoma
Unique yet affordable women’s clothing, jewelry, handbags and accessories. Laura’s shop is one block to the east and across the street from us. We’re so glad to have them in the neighborhood. I bought my Mighty Purse (that charges my phone) there recently and LOVE it! A fun place to shop, and I’m not a big shopper so that says a lot.
- Velvet Vue, 116 W Oklahoma
This is a really cool and unusual spot. Offering an eclectic mix of all sort of cool things with a rustic retro flair, these 2 gals have created a fabulous shop! Last time I dropped in they had the football game projected onto the brick wall, and on other days they might be showing a vintage flick. So glad to have Dossey and Amanda join our downtown community.
Cool Things to Do
A really fun walking tour of downtown Guthrie. Stacy, the tour guide, is a hoot! She intertwines stories of ghosts, mysterious happenings and history together for a very entertaining evening.
- Tipsy Artist Paint Palace, 124 W. Oklahoma
Tiffany knows how to throw a party! Her paint parties are out of this world. When she takes her show on the road, she’s been known to fill convention centers with huge crowds. She’s quite a local celebrity! You really must check out her fun Paint Palace next time you’re in town and catch one of her parties.
I know all of these folks personally. Many are friends and neighbors – small town living at its best! This is just a short list of the fabulous spots in town.
