December 19 – Procrastinating

This may come as a surprise, but I am nowhere near ready for Christmas. I guess I’ve been a bit distracted by costume making. Now that I’m finished with that, I need to get busy!
If you have been procrastinating/distracted like me and need some great last minute gift ideas, I can help you out.
vanilla
We just received a fresh new batch of imported vanilla beans today. They smell incredible! We put together these great kits to make your own vanilla. All you do is add vodka. We’ve even included the instructions, a gift tag, and a band to seal them with.
If you’re just needing beans, we have those too. Come in and we can hook you up.
Prairie Gypsies, small gift setI brought homemade vanilla to my last dirty Santa event and it was a huge hit. I don’t think I can get away with that again this year, so I may have to go with the Prairie Gypsies gift set. I am so tired of dirty Santa I could scream!
It isn’t too late to whip out an incredible knitted gift. Sharon just learned to knit last fall, and has made more cowl/hat sets than I can count. These are just a few of the sets she’s completed.
Souffle Sets

These knit super fast with Berroco’s Soufflé on size 17 needles. The set takes 5 skeins of yarn. We just received a new shipment of Soufflé and it is going fast!
So are you ready for Christmas? Four lucky winners will receive one of these festive project bags. Leave a comment for this post to get your name in the hat for the drawing.
Festive Bags

Speaking of procrastinating, don’t wait too late. The last shopping day before Christmas at SWAK will be Saturday, December 22.  We will be closed Sunday, December 23 as we usually are on Sundays. And this year we are closing on Christmas Eve so we can spend time with our families.

I am thinking of giving gifts for Orthodox Christmas, or Chinese New Year, or something, I am so far behind for Christmas! The vanilla is a GREAT idea. And the bags are adorable!

My last minute gifts include using nasty “acrylic” yarn. There, I said it….. I have become a yarn snob and only yarns from SWAK are good enough for my projects now. Since I can not seem to throw yarn away, I am making dishcloths from that scratchy “acrylic” yarn. Believe me… once this stuff is gone, I will not be buying anymore! I love the soft wools, alpaca yarns from SWAK! Just say nooooo to that itchy stuff. Make the switch like I have. 🙂

Meli40, acrylic yarn is only good for donating!!! Give it to a good cause and then you won’t feel bad! I’m with you – Life is short, knit with good yarn!!! I love the homemade vanilla kits – wish our dirty Santa had had one of those. I ended up with a Sonic card!!!

At least it wasn’t a Snuggie. I think the year I got the Snuggie (and it wasn’t the worst of the gifts) pretty much soured me on Dirty Santa.

Mittens have been my thing this fall, and the frilly scarves. I bet I have made 30 or 40 pairs of mittens and hats to go with and a couple of cowls also have gone a bit crazy now starting on socks for the sock class coming up soon just to the heal turn so I am sure I will be up there for advice before the class 🙂 Love you guys!!!!

I need to figure out something for Christmas Day. We are not going anywhere, so it will just be me and Jeremy, two dogs and maybe a friend or two. I want to do something at least a little bit festive, but I don’t want to spend hours upon hours cooking for 2 people.
Speaking of Dirty Santa, my husband’s work did one last week, and one of the gifts was a toilet seat. Fortunately he ended up with a Starbucks card, which isn’t really our thing, but will get used eventually.

I can attest homemade vanilla is the best, it is all I use any more.
Also, I would love one of the bags. I actually have a container for all the bags I am collecting. Makes it fun when I take my knitting with me to choose a bag specific to the occasion.

Most all my Christmas shopping is done, only 1 person left! Still waiting on one more package to be shipped, but may not get it before Christmas. 🙁 Cute Vanilla idea!

Those vanilla kits looks marvelous!! Unfortunately, (or some may say fortunately) — we are not exchanging gifts on either side of the family this year, so I don’t think I would be able to use one.
However, I wanted to see if you could save about 3-5 beans for me? I can get them later this week. I also have a pattern in mind that I think one of the Mountaintop yarns would suit very well!

I have like a whole kilo so no worry about me running out before I see you next. I was at Uptown grocery today. They had what was either one long dried out bean folded in half, or 2 shortie dried out beans for like $5.
I have the best beans in town! Plump, juicy, aromatic…it’s a treat just to sniff them.

OK, I know it’s greedy to try to win a second prize in one month, but DANG! Fresh vanilla pods for homemade vanilla? Cute cute cute gift bags? I have to try, at least!
    I guess I’m just selfish that way…
Also, although closing the store cuts into my shopping time, I certainly can’t blame you! Kids are only young a very short time, so that’s where you should spend your hours!

The tree is up & the lights are on. You’d think with all the free time I had this past month, I’d have knitted gifts for everyone but no such luck. We’re sending lots of wishes for health, happiness & love to our friends & family.

Those bags are so cute! So versatile, and a keepsake for the recipient too. It could hold books, yarn, so many things.
I don’t remember seeing the Berroco yarn when I visited a week & a half ago, but you have so many beautiful yarns in your wonderful store. I’ll have to look for it specifically my next visit.
Now, If I could only knit just a little bit faster.
