December 20: Victorian Walk, Take 2

If you missed last weekend’s holiday festivities, Guthrie’s Victorian Walk will be held again this Saturday night from 4pm to 9pm.
I missed last weekend’s event too. We had tickets to the ballet, and I wasn’t about to miss that! Check out Mr. Handsome with Santa Claus…
This Saturday night Anna will be demonstrating tatting, and my little cutie will be playing the piano. I can’t promise when and how many songs he’ll play, but he will look cute in his little Victorian suit. I have to let the hem out of his pants before tomorrow. Something else on my list to do!
Cabled MittsCome see us Saturday for some holiday cheer! From 10 to 3 you can crash the One Cable Mitt class. Perfect for last minute gifts. Procrastinators welcome!
Organizing Christmas is a full time job. Wednesday after work I rolled, cut and baked over 100 shaped cookies in record time (1 hour – woot!) Then I had to fulfill my duties as first lady of auto parts so I dashed out the door to Keith’s Christmas party.
Last night I had to ice & decorate the same cookies and go to Mason’s Christmas program at school.
Today I have to play homeroom cookie mom and go to his class party. I need an elf!
Speaking of elves, I finally broke down and got Mason an Elf on the Shelf. When he asked why he was the only kid in his class without an elf…what do you say to that?
So in addition to all of the other Christmas duties, and having to remember to put gifts in his daily advent Santa, I also have to move Chippy-Ernie the elf every night.
I did get a little crazy the other day. While making chocolate chip cookies for last week’s Victorian Walk, I became inspired.
Mason woke up to find Chippy-Ernie sitting on a little paper cup on the back of the potty the other morning, holding a tiny roll of toilet paper.
The next day Chippy-Ernie had moved to the Christmas tree, yet left this behind…
My poor child may never eat chocolate chips again!
I know many of you are crazy busy too and we appreciate that you take time out of your hectic day to see what we have in store for you. We’re winding down to the final days of our 24 Days of SWAK fun, but don’t wander off. We have some exciting things left to come!

And for those of you who haven’t wandered off, I do have a prize to give away today. What has you so crazy busy now that Christmas is finally upon us? Or if you’re one of those people, you know the ones who get their shopping done and presents wrapped before July 4…we’ll try not to throw an ornament at you.
One lucky person will win a homemade vanilla kit, so you can make your own vanilla extract. All you have to do is add vodka and wait 6 weeks to use. I’ll announce the winner tomorrow.

I have been super busy helping my mom find and wrap gifts, as she is a last minute shopper (which I suppose comes from dad’s job always waiting until Christmas eve to hand out bonuses when we were kids). Me personally, I finished probably the first week of December. But mostly they are handmades made over the course of the year for a small handful of people.

I have to clean my dining room before guests are over for Christmas dinner. It is time to fund a new he for my schoolbooks and papers. Shopping is done but I need to wrap!

I’m done I’m done I’m done! Yippee. But only because “Christmas” with my family (husband and in-laws) was back on Dec 7th. It seemed to be the only time that everyone could get together. My husband and I have a 6 month old, and so we got her a gift. It’s been sitting under the tree since yesterday. Haha. 🙂

I’m one of “those” people, who has had my gifts bought/made for months…but I have definitely been procrastinating the wrapping of them! I’m now out of time and almost nothing is wrapped!

With 40+ years of Christmas planning “under my belt” one would think I’d have this down to a science. Well, I don’t!!! I even have a set menu (the only thing that changes is dessert) and I seem to stress over that. I cherish the most valuable gift my family can give (their time) and will be very happy on Sunday (our day to celebrate). Three more days and it will be a happy memory for me and I’ll pray for the same for you and yours. Merry Christmas!

I am busy making Keely’s cut out cookies. I volunteered to bring sugar cookies to two different events. Anyone taking bets on if I can beat Keely’s time of one hour for 100 cookies? 😛

You can do it! I made the dough the night before, and was covered with flour by the time I was through. I think I still had flour in my hair at the party.

Well, I just finished my Christmas shopping of stocking stuffers yesterday. 99.9% of my gift shopping was done online again. Although I’ve wrapped nothing, and I must allow much time for wrapping stocking stuffers… my family is continuing a tradition that my mom started years ago. She made one huge Christmas stocking, and put lots of little gifts in it, like fingernail clippers, rolls of tape, post-it notes. And each item was individually wrapped. (Yes, even a roll of tape was wrapped.) I love that my sister-in-love took the stocking and is continuing the tradition. And I love even more that they’ve let my husband and me come over for the stocking celebration. Fortunately, I don’t mind wrapping! It’s the shopping I hate!!!

My parents can’t travel anymore, so my brothers and I go to them. Between getting ready for that, holiday parties, and my son’s and my birthdays last week, I’ve been super busy! I am actually having bloodwork done while I’m visiting the parents, because it’s the first time I’ll have time to do it!
I am grateful I have only laundry and packing left to do, and nervous about the weather affecting my departure. Hope the National Weather Service’s forecast is accurate! 🙂
    Merry Christmas to all!

Think I can get the 2 trees out of the garage, up & decorated, string the outside lights, get the wreath up above the garage, buy, write & send more Christmas cards, figure out Christmas dinner & schedule, grocery shop & bake the 5 coffee cakes to deliver to family & neighbors in the next 4 days? Yeah, me neither. Hohohum. If I’ll start early next year.

I’ve got to do dishes and laundry, and wrap my presents for my husband. The house needs cleaned (always) and I haven’t started any baking or cooking yet. But I have taken all of next week off, so I can get started after sleeping in tomorrow!

With 3 kiddos in elementary school, I have been busy with all the parties (3 in one day!), Santa’s workshop day, gingerbread house making, and shopping. Not too shabby for one week, but now I have to finish shopping, wrap and plan two dinners. Hope the kiddos are feeling helpful!
