December 7: Quirky Charm
I’m a huge Gilmore Girls fan. If you haven’t watched the series, you seriously need to put it in your binge queue. The other day I was wishing I lived in Stars Hollow, but then it dawned on me that I kind of already do!
We may not get the snow, but Guthrie has all of the charm and quirky characters. We have several diners, charming inns, a dance studio, a jewelry store without any jewelry (like the pancake house that didn’t serve pancakes), a music store run by a famous musician, a gazebo, our own version of Taylor Doose, and a town troubadour or two.
There are bed races down Oklahoma Avenue, Carl the shop rooster that roams along Wentz, an off-beat park ranger for our tiny national park, and the stories! Hang around here long and you’ll be hooked on the on-going tales that rival any TV script.
The town really comes to life during our numerous parades and events: 89’ers celebration (with a 2 hour parade), 4th of July fireworks spectacular (that isn’t on July 4), homecoming parade, Red Brick Nights. But the highlight of the year is the annual Territorial Christmas Celebration.
The celebration kicked off Thanksgiving weekend, with a lighted Christmas parade. The entries were covered were lights. Even Clark Griswold’s cousin Eddie showed up in his RV.
The first of two Victorian Walks starts this Saturday from 5 to 9. This family friendly holiday spectacular encompasses the entire historic downtown area with carolers strolling the streets dressed in period clothing, scenes of Victorian life portrayed in multiple living-window scenes, and other holiday fun.
Don’t miss It’s a Wonderful Life: a Radio Play at the historic. Pollard Theatre, or take a peek into some of Guthrie’s finest homes, churches, and buildings during the Historic Homes Tour.
Our windows will feature FREE fiber fun for kids. Drop in and make loomed flowers & pompoms, or warm up with some toasty wassail and other tasty treats.
Victorian Walk evenings are held on Saturday December 8th and 15th from 5pm to 9pm. Join the fun, and be sure to stop in and say hello.
PS: Looks like we won’t be snowed in this Saturday after all, so this weekend’s Victorian Walk is on!!
