December 8: People Who Make Stuff
I’ve come to the conclusion that there are basically two types of people: those who make stuff, and those who don’t. You won’t hear those of us who make stuff say:
- You know you can buy that at the store.
or (one of my favorites)
- Would you make that for me, I’ll pay you?
Even if it’s something that’s not in our wheelhouse, we can appreciate the stuff other people make. We endure the annoying remarks, ridicule, elderly slurs. But despite this, you know we’re really the cool kids.
Guthrie’s annual Victorian Walks start tomorrow. We will do our best to reach out to other makers of stuff, and hopefully gain a few new recruits. Here’s what all we’ll have going on:
Saturday, December 9th
Beginner Bunch, 10am to 3pm – come & go
Never knit or crochet before? Has it been awhile and you need a refresher? The Beginner Bunch is for you!
We’ll get you started on a simple scarf. If you pick one of the mega yarns, you likely can finish it before you go.
Young, a new yarn from Lang of Switzerland is mega chunky, super colorful, and a whole lot of fun.  We lust love Young!
Lang has a little booklet filled with patterns for Young, including a 1 skein cowl, 2 skein scarf and 1 skein hat. Great for gifts! While the store-bought folks are out fighting the crowds hunting for a gift, you can kick back on the couch, watch a holiday flick, and crank out one of these quick knits in no time. No brainer!
Saturday, December 9th
Mini Make-n-Take Classes, 4pm to 8pm – come & go
Even thought it is technically the Victorian WALK, you can’t walk around all night.
Come in, warm up and leave with a handmade gift. For only $10 you can make beaded jewelry, tassel earrings, pompoms & more.
Saturday, December 16th
Tiny Elf, 10am to 3pm – come & go
This little cutie works up quick. A perfect last-minute Secret Santa gift, stocking stuffer or package topper.
Saturday, December 16th
Mini Make-n-Take Classes, 4pm to 8pm – come & go
The creativity continues next weekend too, with a repeat session of these fun mini classes. Come get crafty with us!
Today I have a few treats for you. First, you may be wondering where you can get the pattern for this darling elf. It is a free pattern, courtesy of Blue Sky Fibers and you can download it here.
And we’re giving away a skein of Young mega chunky yarn to one lucky winner, along with a pattern booklet filled with patterns. Simply state in the comments which color number you’d like to win (sorry, this serious Swiss company apparently has no use for foolish color names). You can see the colors here, and you have until midnight tonight!
Guthrie’s Victorian Walks are quite the holiday affair. If you can’t join us tomorrow (Dec. 9th), we’ll be doing it again next Saturday (Dec. 16th). Â Come enjoy some Christmas cheer!

08.12.2017 at 00:21I knitted a shawl with 2 hanks of Young and love the yarn. Should I be blessed by having my name drawn, I would select number 78. Thank you Keely for the 24 Days of SWAK. Also for the elf pattern.

08.12.2017 at 15:24I love #80. You are so right about 2 kinds of people! When I tell people that it is NOT cheaper to knit sweaters, they just look at me like I am crazy and ask why in the world would I “waste” all that time! They just don’t know what they are missing. 🙂
