Tiny Topper Thursdays

Join us this summer for hat making fun as our Tiny Toppers campaign kicks into full gear!
Starting in June, we’ll meet each Thursday to knit, crochet and loom hats. No experience is required! For those not that nimble with needles or hooks, we have hat looms available and can teach you how. Hat looms are fun, easy, and great for adults and kids (ages 10 and up).
Join us for…

  • Hands on help and instruction
  • Materials provided at no cost*

*All materials must remain on site, with finished hats to be donated to Tiny Toppers campaign. Materials may be purchased if making hats for personal use.

Is it time to do a bit of Spring Cleaning? Looking to destash some yarn? We are happily taking yarn and supply donations for the Tiny Toppers campaign.
We have already placed several batches of donations with the First Methodist Church in Crescent.
Pastor Jessica Maynard has organized a group of knitters and crocheters, and has brought several tubs of finished hats for our program. If you know of a group that would like to assist, we’d be happy for the help!
Jessica set up a Facebook Group for the Tiny Toppers of Logan County. It is a great place to share finished Toppers, encourage one another, exchange ideas and patterns, and generally get to know each other!
We’re already off to a super start, but will need many more hats! I estimate that 1,000 or more kids will be downtown for Halloween. It is a huge event!

We unveiled this new and exciting campaign last November, working in partnership with SOONER SUCCESS to spread the word about this remarkable program. Our goal is to provide a handmade hat to every child during Guthrie’s annual downtown Trick-or-Treat event. Attached to each hat will be information about the SOONER SUCCESS program.
If you are not familiar with SOONER SUCCESS, it is a program that assists families of children with special needs. Whether exploring eligible services, resources, programs and more Sooner SUCCESS helps build inclusive communities through a comprehensive network of partnerships.
What constitutes a child with special needs is quite broad, encompassing a wide range of children’s needs. Sooner SUCCESS is affiliated with the OU Health Science Center and we are so thrilled to be working with them. Getting information out into our community about this program will be far more effective when it is attached to an adorable handmade hat.

No set time, just come and go. Yes, bring needles if you have them. Most of the yarn we are using is worsted-light bulky in weight so I’d say anywhere from an 8-11. See you Thursday!
